Q1

How is the style of photography best described?

Katy’s style is simple, pure and natural. Keeping her palette one of beautiful light, neutral tones and minimal items ensures her portraiture will forever be timeless.

Q2

Do I need to pay a booking fee?

Yes, upon booking you will be required to pay 50% of the package price. The final balance is due one week before your session. The booking fee is non-refundable.

Q3

Where do the sessions take place?

These shoots are either in your home or out on location at one of Katy’s personal favourite, carefully selected spots. Newborn sessions will always take place in your home. Whatever the style of home doesn’t matter, as long as there is good natural light.

Q4

What should I wear?

Clothing can make or break a shoot, so it’s a good idea to pick items that complement each other. Plain, muted tone clothing (white, cream, pale grey, camel, khaki) are the best.  Please avoid black and denim if you can. Chinos and a plain polo, a shirt or long-sleeved sweatshirt are ideal for men, and casual dresses are perfect for women. Dress babies and children in similar colours to you.  Depending on their age, you could opt for a short sleeved newborn vest, baby romper, a dress (but remember bloomers if your child is still wearing a nappy), a pinafore or dungarees. Please paint your toes if you’d like but try to keep to muted, natural tones.

Q5

How long will the session last?

Maternity shoots take an hour, Newborn shoots take up to two and a half hours, Motherhood sessions are half an hour and Family sessions are one hour.

Q6

When is the best time for outdoor portrait sessions?

Your outdoor shoot is best done either first thing in the morning or late afternoon to early evening, depending on the time of year. You’ll generally have beautiful, soft light during this time which is always the most flattering.

Q7

What if it rains?

If the weather is bad, the shoot will likely be postponed to another day as near to your original date as possible. Katy takes on a limited number of portraits a month, allowing her the flexibility to move sessions around.

Q8

What if my child is unwell before the session?

These things happen and you would be urged to postpone. There will be no extra charge. It’s important for you to have the most magical set of images and this will not happen if your child or children are feeling under the weather.

Q9

How far in advance should I book a portrait shoot?

Katy does get booked up quite far in advance so she recommends booking three months beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Q10

Is Katy willing to travel?

Of course! She is always more than happy to travel further afield. Travel fees do apply depending on location and time spent away. Please get in touch for a personalised quote and to discuss your requirements.

Q11

When will we receive our photos?

Times can vary depending on the season. Usually you will receive your full collection after around three to five weeks, but Katy will also send you some sneak preview images a week or two after the shoot.

Q12

How will we receive our photos?

Katy’s photos are delivered via an online system, which is then available for one year. Full resolution images can be downloaded as many times as you like, and can share your gallery link with friends and family around the world.

Q13

Will I receive a USB?

USBs are available as an additional add-on. As mentioned above, all images are delivered via an online cloud delivery system and available in this format for one year. This allows you to download full resolution photos anywhere, anytime. Photos via this system can also be saved to your personal Dropbox or Google Photo Drive. Katy always advises clients to download and backup the images to their own personal hard drive and/or cloud.

Q14

Can we order prints and albums through Katy?

Yes, absolutely. A range of luxury fine art prints and albums are on offer. Albums are a beautiful way to enjoy your photographs and to safekeep them for the future. Both prints and albums are printed with a Giclée Printer – a fine art printing process, using pigment based inks. This printing technique has a distinctive and painterly effect, resulting in a beautifully soft print. Please enquire for more details.

Q15

Do you offer birth announcement cards?

Yes, after you select your favourite image from your gallery, Katy will design and print it onto a luxury fine art rag paper. This comes complete with an envelope, in packs of ten. Your family and friends won’t want to throw these away. Please enquire for more details.

Q16

Can I purchase vouchers for Katy’s work?

Yes, these make great gifts for expectant mums. You can gift as much as you wish.
