Q1

How is the style of photography best described?

Katy Melling’s style is timeless, romantic and natural. She is always seeking out those beautiful authentic moments of the day.

Q2

Where is Katy based and will she travel?

She’s based in the North East of England but frequently photographs weddings and clients all over the UK and Europe. The majority are in Northumberland and North Yorkshire.

Q3

How much is the booking fee and how do I book?

You will be required to pay a third of your package price upon completion of a contract. Once both have been received, you are officially in the diary. You will then receive a reminder of the remaining balance due 60 days before your wedding date. Unfortunately the booking fee is non-refundable.

Q4

Can a date be put on hold without a booking fee?

Unfortunately this isn’t possible, as it wouldn’t be fair to all couples enquiring. Your date is only reserved upon receipt of the booking fee and completed contract.

Q5

Will we meet Katy before the day?

This isn’t necessary, unless you have booked a pre wedding shoot. A telephone or video call will be scheduled around six weeks prior to your wedding, to discuss the finer details and get to know you a little better. She is, however, always at the end of email or a telephone call, should you wish to discuss anything.

Q6

When will Katy be there on the day?

She prefers to arrive two hours before the ceremony, to capture the anticipation, excitement and styling details. She will be with you throughout the day until your first dance.

Q7

When will we receive our photos?

Times can vary depending on the season. Usually you will receive your full collection around six to eight weeks after your wedding, but Katy will also send you some sneak preview images a week or two after the big day.

Q8

How will we receive our photos?

Katy’s photos are delivered via an online system, which is then available for one year. Full resolution images can be downloaded as many times as you like, and can share your gallery link with friends and family around the world.

Q9

How many images should we expect to receive?

There is no strict limit on the amount of images you will receive. As a guide, if you book a full day package you will receive approximately 600 – 700 images.

Q10

Does Katy offer an engagement shoot?

Yes, engagement shoots are available as an additional add-on and are a great way to practice being in front of the camera before your wedding day. This is recommended if you’re unsure and would like the practice, and the extra gallery of images. Please get in touch for more details.

Q11

Is Katy willing to travel?

Of course! She’s always more than happy to jump on a plane in order to capture your story. Travel fees do apply depending on location and time spent away. Please get in touch for a personalised quote.

Q12

Will I receive a USB?

USBs are available as an additional add-on. As mentioned above, all images are delivered via an online cloud delivery system and available in this format for one year. This allows you to download full resolution photos anywhere, anytime. Photos via this system can also be saved to your personal Dropbox or Google Photo Drive. Katy always advises clients to download and backup the images to their own personal hard drive and/or cloud.

Q13

Can we order a wedding album?

Yes, Katy offers luxury heirloom quality albums, all handmade in the UK. Prices start from £475 for a main album. Please enquire for further details.

Q14

When is the best time for couple portraits?

The late afternoon and early evening light is the best, usually around an hour before the sun sets. This is called ‘the golden hour’ and you’ll generally have a beautiful, soft, romantic light during this time.

Q15

Will there be additional expenses?

If the wedding is further than an hour from Newcastle upon Tyne, Katy will usually charge for travel, and accommodation should that be required too. This would all be agreed upon booking so there are no surprises.

Q16

Are we allowed to print our images?

Yes, absolutely! It’s encouraged! These are your memories and should be displayed in your homes, given as gifts and handed down through families. Tangible photos give us a sense of belonging.

Q17

Does Katy work alone?

She does work alone, fully immersing herself in your day. Katy finds she works more efficiently this way, without the disturbance of a team crowding your day. However, for larger weddings with different needs, she’d be happy to discuss bringing a second photographer and can provide you with a quote for this.

Q18

Will you take any posed family photographs?

Of course, it is important to have a record of your family and loved ones on your wedding day. However, it’s best to keep these to around eight to ten groups maximum, so it doesn’t take up too much of your day. When the time comes, Katy will ask you to select a responsible person to efficiently gather family members and friends for these photos. Once the groups have assembled, these photos will be quick and can be as informal or formal as you wish.

Q19

Does Katy have professional insurance?

Absolutely. She’s fully insured for both professional indemnity and public liability.

Please Note – Prices are subject to change without notice.
